RECEIVING AND OPERATING TMF BUS

TMF bus line and its facilities which were sponsored by Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) under Danang people committee’s (DPC’s) project of ‘Improving Urban Transport Corridor’ would officially be assigned under DPC’s management and operation from the 1st of July 2018. This was an agreement came from the meeting on the TMF bus line project held on the 12th of April between Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, DPC Vice Chairman, and TMF representatives.

On April 12th, the Office of DPC had a meeting with TMF representatives about the project of ‘Improving Urban Transport Corridor’. During the meeting, representatives of relating Danang’s departments including Department of Transport, Planning and Investment, Finance and Foreign Affairs as well as the leader of Hai-Chau People Committee (PC), project managers, director of Datramac and manager of Almec Corporation all express their concern over TMF operating management.

The implementation schedule of ‘Improving Urban Transport Corridor’ project is from the July of 2015 to March of 2019. With a total fund of 2.8 million USD from the TMF, the main aim of the project is to improve urban transport facilities particularly in bus infrastructure such as Nai-Hien-Dong park-and-ride, parking system on Bach-Dang St., covering bus first year operating and managing costs, covering bus subsidies; investing on six new buses; and developing management system.

TMF representative indicated that: with the goal of reducing traffic congestion by investing on multi-model transportation system, in cooperation with other relating organizations, TMF has introduced various urban transportation solutions to increase usage of the public transit system since it firstly introduction from July 2017 such as improving service quality, working on promotion and route plan, etc. However, the representative especially stressed on the importance of developing a comprehensive public transit network and improving service quality in order to reach the final goal of attaining successful public transport system.  Thus, he suggested several pilot projects including equipping electronic information board on bus stops, bus stations and other public places, providing live bus countdown for passengers. Besides, the information board would also integrate live traffic update, informing nearby congestion and traffic accidents. This would enable passengers’ ability to select the most reasonable means of transport; and, therefore, decrease congestion. In additionally, TMF representative proposed extending parking management system on Tran-Phu St.; reviewing Danang public transport network to 2030. Long-term plan which would be in place after March 2019 were also recommended in the meeting. This plan was under the main goal of continue to cooperate with DPC in further Danang projects of developing urban transport infrastructure.

On behalf of the DPC, Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan acknowledged the TMF’s support to Danang development. Mr. Tuan indicated that DPC are going to launch six new subsidized bus lines in 2018 for a more complete public transit network. At the end of the meeting, both representatives of Danang Government and TMF agreed with the joint development plan. .
